Go
to U-Haul and pick out a box. They are strong and cheap.
Try to find a double wall box.
Go to Home Depot and buy a sheet of the insulation that
is used in walls. It is about 1" thick pink or
blue foam, very strong and light. (Not the soft fiberglas
kind.)
When taping the box together, use a lot of tape on the
bottom as it must support the weight of the block.
Cut out pieces of the insulation to line the box. Set
the block inside the box. Cut out additional pieces
of insulation to wedge in the appropriate spots around
the block so as to stop the block from moving around.
Finish sealing the box. Seal the top strongly in case
the box is shipped up side down. Sometimes adding fragile
stickers help but never underestimate how badly the
Big 3 shipping companies will treat your box.
Do not use foam peanuts or confetti. It does not work
well, makes a mess and gets into your oil passages..
DHL seems to be the best way to ship heavy boxes with
UPS coming in second. FedEx ground is very rough on
packages.
When shipping the block, please do NOT include the flywheel,
any motor mounts, water tubes, block sensors, harmonic
balancers, misc. brackets, etc. If I am only doing the
sleeving and nothing else, I need the main caps and
the bare block only.
If we are doing the complete build, we need the main
caps and nuts and bolts that go along with items I am
installing, i.e. oil pump, water pump, oil pick-up,
pan, windage tray, etc.
Be sure to enclose a sheet of paper in your engine box
with the following:
your name
return address
e-mail address
Honda tech screen name (if you have one)
best phone number to reach you
what work you are having done and what other parts you
are buying
how you will be paying for everything
never assume that I will know or remember anything because
I receive so many items, it can be confusing at times
